Midjourney Experiments

Midjourney is an artificial intelligence system that can create images from user-ingested text prompts. I started experimenting with this tool in June of 2022 and have found it very useful as a "jump off" point for design & illustration. Below are some works inspired by the tool and the fun, addictive nature of creating.

MIDJOURNEY PROCESS | LESSONS IN PERSISTENCE

Midjourney requires patience. While the A.I. iterates images from text prompts with great speed, it's wildly unpredictable and can often miss the mark. It requires the user to continue pushing through on variations (it's common to see more seasoned artists running through 50+ variations for one prompt) which finesses the outcomes. For this image in particular I used the prompt "Batman as a demon, realistic, cinematic, red octane render". I finally decided on a variation where the figure looked both ultra-futuristic and a little demonic. Most of the adjustments came from compositing different parts of the image as well as painting in new areas with smoke brushes, adding in detail and removing any areas that looked jumbled or confusing. Overall, I'm happy with the way this turned out. Looking forward to experimenting more with this tool!
